Christmas is right on our doorstep and as a Christmas lover, Christmassy cheers have already begun! London is bustling with Christmas activities at the moment with so many places gearing up to serve as a place for the celebration of this festive season. There are quite a lot of markets where shopgoers can get most of their Christmas gifts or just go for the annual Christmas pilgrimage to enjoy the magic and wonder of the season.
Here is my list of the Top 5 Christmas markets in London to enjoy your Christmas in the city, you’ll love them, promise!
1. Winter Wonderland
Winter Wonderland, located in Hyde Park, offers SO many exhilarating activities. It is the most magnificent of the entire London Christmas event. This year Nov 17- Jan1 expect to be treated with Winter Wonderland’s two circuses, the UK’s largest outdoor ice rink, the spectacular Cinderella on ice and a 60-meters observation wheel that shares a huge resemblance with the views of the London Eye. It has traditional wooden huts, an Ice Kingdom with a polar bear palace, German traditional food, thrilling rides and much, much more! If (like me) you’re all about Christmas you’ll absolutely love this place!
2. Winter Time at Southbank Centre
Tourists and locals can get to enjoy the Nordic ambience of this Christmas market this Winter. The aesthetics of this fair are fascinating as it is located under the London Eye and you can see the Houses of Parliament at the other side of the river (though they’re refurbishing it now so expect some billboards round it, duh!). Taste a fondue inside a snow globe, enjoy mulled wine in a cosy bar and get your handcrafted Christmas gifts by artisans in their winter market stalls! You’ll also find the greatest magical Winter show of London returning this year to the Southbank Centre: Slava’s Snowshow!
3. Christmas in Leicester Square
This is for the ones who want to enjoy the Christmas season in the heart of London. Leicester Square is prominent for hosting blockbuster movie premiers during the year but every Christmas it transforms into a place of glitz and joy. Leicester square, from Dec 10-7 January, houses food and gift stalls, a Belgian Spiegeltent show, and a wonderful array of Christmas decorations. You can even find Santa Claus in his grotto!
4. Christmas by the River at London Bridge
This festive season, London Bridge will be a place to visit to enjoy Christmas by the riverside with a charming array of lighted stalls along the Thames River Trail. Expect to find artisan and handmade gifts, food and drinks. There is also a Christmas tree entirely made of lights and the always fascinating Tower Bridge that lightens up at dusk. Get ready to be surrounded by magic, both from the Christmas decorations and from the city skyline along the river at night.
5. Greenwich Winter Time Festival
Picture yourself standing in the middle of a winter fair. By just turning around you can travel from the stunning 17th Century architecture of the Old Royal Naval College, to the 19th Century Cutty Sark onto the breath-taking views of the Thames and the bright lights of modern day London with the City in the distance. Then add all the best traditions of the season packed full with contemporary twists and you have the perfect Christmas destination!
Christmas ought to be done in a right ambience containing the elements of Christmas festivity and these London Christmas markets will definitely provide Christmas enthusiasm for everyone!
